Evelyn Lanora Johnson Appleby, 94, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 3, 2023.
She was born on November 15, 1928 in Tallahassee, FL to Woodie and Aileen Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years: Raymond O. Appleby; their daughter: Nancy Lee Appleby; five brothers: Marvin Johnson, Wilford Johnson, Frank Johnson, Irvin Johnson, Mack Johnson; and two sisters: Florrie Johnson Roberts, and Leila Johnson Barnes.
She is survived by three children: Raymond Larry Appleby (Patti), Marsha Appleby Williams (Walt), and Herbert Wilford Appleby (Nina); seven grandchildren: Matthew Appleby (Rebecca), Brandon Appleby (Katie), Blake Appleby (Meredith), Abbey Williams Woods (Marc), Garrett Williams (Lindsey), Jimmy Appleby, and Johnny Appleby; and ten great-grandchildren: Evie, Eli, Emma, Micah, Wade, Kate, Chloe, Kinley, Edith, and Stafford; and multiple nieces, nephews, and friends.
She served with her husband on the Sunday School bus route for Trinity Baptist Church for several years. They spent many days together in the mountains of North Carolina and often took memorable vacations with their family. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, just as they enjoyed her lovely meals. She retired from AT&T as a long distance operator after 20 years.
Her favorite verses in Scripture were Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to her personal caretaker, Ellen Graham, the Hospice staff, and members of Vivo Healthcare who served Evelyn with great compassion and an excellent standard of care.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on June 20, 2023 at Fraser Funeral Home with Rev. Blake Appleby officiating. The family will receive visitors at 12:00PM. Interment to follow the service at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens with Dr. Larry Appleby officiating.

We met Evelyn 12 years when we moved to Jacksonville. She lived down the road from us & we spent so many hours visiting! What a fantastic lady! 94 years young. She told so many stories of growing up, family (we never got to meet Raymond), living & growing up in Tallahassee & JAX. Will miss you but say hi to Raymond & Nancy for us! Love & hugs
