Betty Louise Brunson
September 4, 1930 – August 17, 2023
Betty Louise Brunson (Jester) passed away on August 17, 2023. She was born on September 4, 1930 in Augusta, GA to William Paschal Jester and Effy Jester. She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Joe, and her brother Henry Jester and sister Marthann Kirkland. She is survived by her two children, Joe Jr. (Laurie), and Suzanne (Danny-deceased), six grandchildren, Chase Brunson (Alana), Victoria Pope (Jordan), Kelsey Brunson (Ansley), Courtney Andrews, Gabrielle Andrews, and Daniel Andrews, and seven great grandchildren, Noah, Sophie, Harper, Audrey, Levi, Violet, and Huxley.
Betty dearly loved her family and prayed for each of them by name. She determined at a young age to show great love and affection to her children. For those who knew her, you could count on a warm greeting with a hug and kiss, sometimes on the mouth. Her home, always clean and tidy, became a place of refuge to family, friends, and anyone who needed a good, home-cooked meal. From slumber parties with grandkids to entertaining college students far from home, her house provided a place of rest and belonging to all who entered.
Betty and her husband Joe were faithful members of Trinity Baptist Church from 1971 until their deaths. Over the years, she was involved in a number of ministries including Joyful Heirs, Sonshiners, and the Dealing Center. Through these ministries, persistent prayer, and her willingness to share the gospel with anyone she met, many lives were changed as a result of her faithfulness.
Betty enjoyed attending Trinity football games, vacations with friends, and sharing a meal at Hardee’s with her Sunday School class. She expressed her creativity through painting, which she started in 1983, having created over 50 paintings and drawings, many of which are displayed in the homes of her family.
Betty’s twilight years were some of her best, always maintaining a joyful attitude as life change brought new gospel opportunities. Betty and Joe moved to the Riverside Presbyterian Apartments in 2019 where they created new memories and friendships. After Joe’s passing in 2021, Betty moved to a new place, smaller than the last, and made it a home as well. She was a light to all who crossed her path, joyfully making the most of her new environment. Despite all the change in these years, she demonstrated courage, grace, and love, making the most of every opportunity to eternally impact the lives of those who knew her.
