Ms. Betty Yvonne Smith, 83, passed away Friday, December 6, 2024, at Piedmont Hospital in Cartersville, GA. surrounded by loved ones. A memorial service will be held for Ms. Smith Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32221 with Harold Noble officiating. A eulogy will be given by her brother-in-law, Glenn Goodroe. Visitation will be one hour before the service. She will be taken to her place of rest at Smith Cemetery, 5082 Cemetery Road Jacksonville, FL. Edward Thompson, Wade Van Duzer, Jacob Taylor, Charles Woodall, Josh Godwin, Stephen Smith, Brad Knapp will serve as pallbearers.
Born on October 22nd,1941 in Jacksonville, FL., Betty was the daughter of the late Boy Elijah O’Steen and Mildred Marie Stokes. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Smith, Jr. whom she was married to for 59 years, one brother-in-law, Everette Leon Carrigg and one great grandchild, Asher Godwin.
Betty started her bus driver career with the late Ms. Evelyn Gamill and continued driving for many years with Durham School Services and Student Transportation of America #883.
Her passions were making crafts, painting folk art, sewing, attending craft shows, making wedding cakes, repurposing furniture and collecting antiques.
Betty was the oldest of five siblings, Patsy Carrigg, Boy (Joan) O’Steen, Harold (Kathy) O’Steen, Sharon (Glenn) Goodroe. One sister and brother-in-law, Susan (Harold) Noble.
Betty loved her five children and their spouses, she had four daughters; Annette (Wayne) Crawford of Mcgrady, NC., Janice (Floyd) Taylor of Rydal, GA., Lora (Wayne) Van Duzer of Tifton, GA., Peggy (Allen) Hart of Jacksonville, FL., one son; John Wayne Snipes (Nikki Rae Baillie) of Jacksonville, FL.
Betty loved her grandchildren and their spouses, Nicole (Josh) Cochran, Edward (Coty) Thompson, Dustin Crawford, Tony Crawford, Jacob Taylor, Charles Woodall, Lindsay Copher, Hailey (Josh) Godwin, Harley (Stephen) Smith, Ashley (Brad) Knapp, Joannie Snipes, Wade Van Duzer. Her great-grandchildren; Tess Cochran, Koby Cochran, Jace Thompson, Mason Thompson, Stran Copher, Hunter Hayes, Maverick Gayle. Special friends she loved, Miss Janie Davis, Helen Taylor and Joann Rayburn. The family would like to thank the group at Manor Lake that assisted in caring for her.
