Claudia Cherry was born in Jacksonville, Florida on March 30, 1950. Claudia retired from Chartwell Food Services where she managed the cafeteria at West Riverside Elementary for 20 years. She moved from Jacksonville to Baker County in 2019.
Claudia loved children. She was always the “go-to” babysitter beginning with her nephew Nicholas Smith and continuing to her great grands. She loved nothing more than her family and she showed that in every aspect of her life. Many a day was spent watching the kids play, helping them with their homework, listening to their corny jokes, pretending to be amazed by their “magic” tricks, and telling them how well they sing.
Claudia leaves behind a legacy in her children, Lisa Baker and Stacey Van Dyke (Robert), her grandchildren, Michael Whitehead (Lexie), Aimee Bottoms (David), Amanda Whitehead, Regan Moore (Deion Henderson), Keli Jones (Josh), her great grandchildren, Lacey Whitehead, Easton Whitehead, Everleigh Whitehead, Harper Whitehead, and former sons-in-law, Michael Whitehead Jr. and Charles Moore Jr., as well as her precious grand kitties, Duchess, Coco, Luca, and Bernie.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Claudia is survived by 2 sisters, a brother, and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband of 47 years (John Cherry), parents (Claude Kersey and Inez Yarbrough), and sister (Diana Waters).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Community Hospice and Palliative Care or Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center.

I remember when we lived in Master’s trailer park, we used to walk everywhere, we would walk to Kmart, Krystal, back in the day that was just a normal summer. I miss those days, things were so much simpler. Love and miss my Aunt Claudia 😢
