Dorothy Jean (Dot) Knudsen of Jacksonville, 87, passed away Monday, April 28, 2025. She was born on October 1, 1937, in Peoria, IL to Rex Rudolph Bomhold and Dorothy Lane Bomhold. She married her late husband Richard John (Dick) Knudsen in 1956 and moved with him to Jacksonville, FL due to his career in the United States Navy.
During her husband’s Naval career, the family traveled extensively, living in California, Washington, North Carolina, and Midway Island in the Pacific Ocean. After her husband’s retirement from the Navy, the family returned to Jacksonville, where Dot worked as an administrative assistant for the City of Jacksonville Streets and Highways Department. She subsequently retired from The Duval County School system.
After retirement, she and Dick traveled throughout the United States, crossing the country many times over a period of twenty years in four different motor homes. Somehow, it seems every route was routed through Las Vegas!
Throughout her lifetime, Dot was very creative and enjoyed learning new skills and hobbies, including dancing (ballet and tap), knitting, crocheting, jewelry designing, macrame, cake decorating and floral arranging. She was also a talented artist, working with both oils and watercolors.
Dot Was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of sixty-seven years, Dick, her brothers, Rex Jr., Johnny Joe, Bobby and sister, Sharon Brogdon.
She is survived by her brothers, Richie (Edna) and Roy (Virginia), her sons, Kevin (Linda), Randy (Janie), and Ricky, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Dot was a vibrant, adventurous soul, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
