October 19, 1945 – June 22, 2025
James “Jimmy” Clarence Simpson, Sr., 79, of Jacksonville, Florida, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at 1:48 a.m., surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 19, 1945, in Clarkesville, Georgia, Jimmy was raised on a farm in Mt. Airy, GA. In the early 1960s, he moved to Jacksonville, where he met and married the love of his life, Linnie Yvonne Farmer. They shared 62 wonderful years together.
In the 1960s, Jimmy proudly held an undefeated record as a professional heavyweight boxer. He later devoted over 50 years to his work as a glazier. Jimmy had a deep love for Southern gospel music and was known for his strong faith, dedication to family, and unwavering work ethic.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Yvonne Simpson; his children: David L. Petty, Sr. (Denise), James C. Simpson, Jr., and Becky Starr Lyon (Paul); his grandchildren: David Petty, Jr. (Amber), Daniel Petty, Laine Simpson (Kris Medina), Hollyn Simpson, William Meidling, and John Meidling; and one great-granddaughter, Ansleigh Petty.
Jimmy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His kindness, strength, and sense of humor touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

So sorry for your loss. Jimmy was one of the best friends I had when we lived across the street from him. We sure enjoyed the fishing trips in the swamp with cane poles. He will be missed but the memories will last a lifetime. Love to your family
