Donald Ray Meadows, 82, passed away on November 15, 2024, in Jacksonville, FL. Born on April 24, 1942, Don was a man deeply committed to his faith, embodying the virtues of a faithful servant of Jesus Christ throughout his life.
Don was known for his integrity and quiet strength, a steadfast presence in the lives of his loved ones. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he approached all aspects of his life with unwavering dedication and a gentle demeanor. Those who knew him could always rely on Don, whether the task was large or small.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Vietnam Veteran for four years, demonstrating his commitment and courage. Following his military service, Don pursued a career as a Senior Environmental Scientist, dedicating himself to the stewardship of the natural environment.
Don was an active member of First Baptist Church from 2011 until his passing and had also been involved with Westside Baptist and Hillcrest Baptist throughout his life. His faith was a cornerstone of his existence, guiding him in his daily actions and decisions.
An avid outdoorsman, Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and landscaping. These hobbies were a reflection of his love for nature and his dedication to preserving and enhancing the beauty of the natural world around him.
Don is survived by his spouse of 61 years, Jeannette Meadows; his son, Donnie Meadows (Amy); his daughter, Lonna Dotherow (Chris); his son, Richard Meadows (Morgan); eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Jarrell T Meadows; his mother, Lillie Mae Meadows; and his sister, Carolyn Fish.
A memorial service celebrating Don’s life will be held at First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL, on November 21, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the service at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Next Gen Campaign.
