Donald Edwin Hysler, age 77, passed away on May 10, 2025. He was born on August 5, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Daniel and Lilly Lorraine Hysler.
After serving his country with honor as a Marine during a tour in Vietnam, Don returned to Jacksonville, where he met and married the love of his life, Cheryl. The two were happily married for 56 years at the time of his passing.
Don worked as a telephone lineman and a fiber optics specialist for Southern Bell/Bellsouth for 33 years, retiring in 2001. He was known for his strong work ethic, kind heart, and devotion to family.
He is survived by his beloved wife Cheryl; four children: Kim Holton (Robert), Melanie Layton (Kevin), Wendy Mccoy, and Chris Cormell (Helen); and nine grandchildren: Curtis, Jessica, Tori, Karie, Abby, Matthew, Wesley, Austin, and Gavin. He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Luke, Emmarie, Karsyn, Millie, Brynlie, Jace, and Ada. Don was preceded in death by his son, Tracy.
Affectionately known as “PawPaw,” Don will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman who found peace in the woods hunting and joy behind the grill, where he proudly claimed the title of “Grill Master.”
His warmth, strength, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
