Donald Ray Greene, 85, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2024. Born in Jewell, VA, on October 3, 1939, he was the son of Jasper Benjamin Greene and Buela Peck. Don served his country proudly for 28 years in the Navy as an aircraft maintenance professional. Following his military retirement, he continued his dedication to public service as a civilian federal employee for another 12 years.
An avid golfer and a devoted sports fan, Don enjoyed following baseball and football, with a special fondness for the Florida Gators. Above all, he was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Don was married for 44 years to his beloved wife, Yvonne Greene, and took great joy in being an active presence in his grandchildren’s lives, cheering them on at their sports and activities. Known for his kindness, humor, and generosity, he delighted his grandchildren with special outings and was always ready to indulge their wishes—no matter the number of stops he needed to make.
Don will be fondly remembered for his selfless spirit, warm heart, and unwavering support of those he loved. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brothers, Jimmy and John Greene; his daughters, Lorri and Shari Greene; his stepchildren, Keith Ward, Donna Warner, and Nick Ward; as well as his 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his parents, Jasper and Buela; his sons, Steve and Benjamin Greene; and his grandson, John Michael Greene.
The funeral service will be held on November 11, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Jacksonville National Cemetery 4083 Lannie Rd Jacksonville, FL 32218 with Pastor Ray Mayfield.
