Guy William Broadway (Bill) went home to Heaven to be with his beloved wife Jane Broadway on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021. He will be interned at Jacksonville Riverside Memorial Park at 1437 Memorial Park Road Jacksonville FL 32220 with a graveside service including military honors at 3 pm Saturday April 10, 2021. Brother David Hill will be officiating and arrangements are being handled by Fraser Funeral Home.
Guy was born in Magnolia Arkansas on August 9, 1936. He was a resident of Kennett, MO where he graduated from Kennett High School in 1954. He joined the Air Force on a buddy pact and served in the Air Force for 6 years where he was part of the 686th Aircraft and Control Warning Squadron. After a short break from military service, Bill enlisted in the Navy where he would travel the world on several ships including the USS John F. Kennedy. Bill ended up stationed at Cecil Field, Jacksonville Florida where he would retire after serving a total of 20 years, 2 months and 2 days as he was fond of noting. He retired as a First Class Petty officer.
Bill got a second chance for love when he met his beloved bride Jane in Jacksonville and they were married in 1984. After military retirement, Bill started working at the Scotty’s hardware store where he retired for a second time in his life. Bill was always very athletic in high school, especially track and basketball and walked and ‘shot hoops’ in front of his house into his 80s. Jane and Bill were members of the American Legion Post 137 in Jacksonville where they played darts and were active with several committees. They were also members of Macedonia Baptist Church where Bill was Head Usher and drove the church bus for the ‘hens’. Macedonia later became Rise Church. Bill was exceptional with trivia, he was always the family member that everyone wanted on their team during the Trivia Pursuit craze. He often mentioned that he was barred from the Wheel of Fortune pool at the local watering hole because he ALWAYS got the right answer first. After retirement he became the family chauffeur especially for his grandchildren.
He is survived by his brother Doug Broadway (spouse Lindy) of Anchorage AK, sons Randy Broadway of Kennett MO, Michael Broadway (spouse Linda) of Jonesboro AR, Jon Hammond of Jacksonville FL, daughter Kathy Forrester (husband Bob Murphy) of Jacksonville FL, and first wife, mother of Randy and Michael, Kathleen Elliott of Jonesboro AR. 8 surviving Grandchildren: Lori, Stephanie, Tara, Marc, Jonny, Brian, Jesse, and Jeffrey. Bill and Jane also had 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. You could say their quiver was full.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Jane Broadway and grandson Michael Murphy as well as his parents Guy and Gwyneth Broadway; sisters Nina Smith and Pauline Billie; and brothers W.C. Broadway and Richard ‘Bud’ Broadway.
Bill leaves behind a very large circle of family and friends and the first pet that he ever had who came into his life in his 80s, dog Shiloh. He will be sorely missed but there is great rejoicing in Heaven.
