James Brown Roberson, age 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 30, 2024. Jim retired from Western Auto after 21 years of service at 60. He loved sports and played football, basketball, wrestled, and boxed in the Golden Gloves. Jim took up tennis at 47. His teams won 28 league championships and went to the state playoffs 13 times and won one state championship.
Even with all this, Jim says his favorite thing has been teaching children in Sunday School. He has gotten to see well over 200 children get saved by Jesus. Jim said, “There isn’t anything better than that”.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, Steven James Roberson. He is survived by wife of 61 years, Violet H. Roberson, a daughter, Darlene Smith (James E.), a daughter in law Irene Roberson), his six grandchildren, Mandi, Todd, Palmer, Stephanie, Lucy and Peter, his 9 great grandchildren, Ryan, Artus, Chandler, Riley, Eli, Skylar, Haiden, Liam, Braelynn and Ruthie.
Funeral Services will be held, Friday, April 5,2024 at 2:00 PM in Trinity Baptist Church, 800 Hammond Blvd., Jacksonville, Fl 32221 with Pastor Paul Scott officiating followed by interment in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
