Joy Jean Culbertson, 75, passed away on November 18, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born on June 6, 1949, in Fontana, California. Joy was known for her vibrant, friendly, and outgoing personality.
Joy dedicated much of her professional life to education and administration. She served as an elementary school teacher at Rhineland Baptist Church in Landstuhl, Germany, and later as an executive secretary for W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractor in Jacksonville, Florida. Her commitment to nurturing young minds was evident in her career and personal life, as she cherished spending time with, and taking care of children, including her beloved grandchildren.
She attended Fontana High School in Fontana, California, and furthered her education at Arizona Bible College in Phoenix, Arizona. Joy’s faith played a significant role in her life, as she actively participated in church communities at Rhineland Baptist Church in Germany and Trinity Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
Besides her dedication to her career and church, Joy was passionate about photography. She captured moments of joy and togetherness with her family, whom she loved deeply.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Diana Hartness, and her siblings, Robert (Bobbie) Hartness and Patrecia (Patti) Hartness. She is survived by her husband, Wayne; her children, (son) Robert (Dean) and wife Doreen; (daughter) Patrecia and husband Ruben; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, who will all miss her dearly.
Joy’s life was a testament to the power of community, faith, and family. Her legacy of love, education, and service will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
