Phyllis Sanderson, a pillar of strength and love, passed away on March 15, 2024, in Jacksonville, FL, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on March 28, 1941, Phyllis lived a life characterized by unconditional love, contagious laughter, impeccable work ethic, and selfless sacrifices. Phyllis was a retired small business owner, and member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God for over 30 years.
Her heart was genuine, her fight against life’s challenges endless, and her motto, “live by example,” she epitomized effortlessly. Phyllis leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that touched the lives of all who knew her.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Mary Lee and John Gaston Newman, her husband Billy Sanderson, her brothers Gene, Bobby, Jackie, Larry, Donnie and sisters Jane, Loretta and Jody. Survivors include her three children Jerry Wayne Tucker (Kim) of Valdosta, GA, Nickie Touchton (Mike) of Middleburg, FL, and Shane Sanderson (Chris) of Jacksonville. Phyllis loved her role as Granny to Brandon, Dustin, Amber, Matt, Brittany, Bailey, Breylin, Brody, Leila, Daniel, Alex, Shane, Shane’na and Christian. She was a proud Gigi to 14 great-grands and a beloved Aunt and friend.
Though her departure leaves hearts broken, there’s solace in knowing that her struggles have ended, and she now rejoices in the presence of her Savior, Jesus. Her spirit lives on, and her memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives she graced.
