Russell “Rusty” William Chason, 71, passed away on February 21, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Rusty was born on May 27, 1952 to DeVaughn W. Chason and Jayne Kaiser Chason in Jacksonville, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 49 years, Jane Rossington Chason. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather (PaPa) and is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Everett and Heather Gidcumb, his grandchildren, Chase, Cole and Chloe Gidcumb, Aniston Everett and by his sister Becky Westberry and numerous relatives and life long friends. Rusty and Jane owned a successful construction business for over 35 years. Chason Construction participated in the building of several Habitat for Humanity homes in the Jacksonville community. Rusty’s love of nature kept him outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved camping, gardening and landscaping. He loved surfing as a teen and was on the N. E. Jetties Exhibition Surf Team in Mayport. He loved southern rock music and the blues. Rusty was a collector of antiques and southern pottery. He loved the Osceola Forest, the Seminole and Timucuan Indian tribes and has a nice collection of artifacts he found throughout his life. He loved to read and had well over 100 books just on old Florida history. But most of all he was a Christian, loved his family and loved passing on his knowledge of life. He was a blessing to everyone he knew and will be truly missed.
Graveside visitation and service will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.
