Virginia (Ginger) Catherine Hysler Brewer

September 06, 1949~May 07, 2025

Virginia (Ginger) Catherine Hysler Brewer, 75, of Orange Park, Florida, has officially gone to bake cookies in heaven and talk God’s ear off. She passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025.

Born with a shopping bag in one hand and a prayer in the other, Ginger lived a life filled with love, laughter, shopping and baked goods that could cure almost anything. She spent her working years at Prudential Insurance Company, but her real career was being the heart of her family and the unofficial gossip columnist.

Ginger is survived by her devoted husband Charles Brewer, her four beloved children — Tammy Tittel (Harry), Michael Valentine, Jr., Katie Higginbotham (Eric), and Joshua Brewer (Melissa) — nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and an untold number of small kitchen appliances.

She never met a stranger she couldn’t talk to or a grandchild she couldn’t spoil. Her favorite hobbies included church, baking, chatting your ear off, and making sure everyone had eaten — twice.

A service to celebrate Ginger’s life will be held at Westside Family Worship Center, 9717 103rd St., Jacksonville, FL 32210, on Saturday, May 17, 2025 with Pastor Jimmy Wilder officiating followed by interment in Deese Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL. The viewing is Friday, May 16, 2025 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Westdside Family Worship Ceneter. A reception to follow the graveside will be held at Westside Family Worship Center. If you come, expect tears, laughter, and possibly baked goods in her honor.

In lieu of flowers, consider performing a random act of kindness or baking something for someone you love.

God surely gained an angel on earth, your mom was the most kindest gentlest soul anyone could have ever met, I pray her love and faithfulness to her family and friends stay in your heart to help you through this hard time, she was a wonderful woman who loved her family fiercely and hit her knees without question when God gave her challenges, her spirit will live in all of you for all the years to come. I was so sad to hear of Ginger’s passing. I know she is now in a better place and free from the suffering, but I will miss her presence. We were classmates at Robert E. Lee High School and graduated in 1967. We reconnected many years later, when we started attending Westside Family Worship Center. I pray God will wrap his loving arms around Charlie and the rest of the family as they travel through this loss.

I will miss you my dear friend. Ginger, you’re one of a kind. Safe in the arms of Jesus we will see you soon. We’ll take care to live well after the example you gave us, but the truth is we couldn’t possibly do it as well. Rebecca and I love you Brewers/Valentines! May God bless you.

Ginger, thank for being the best friend. You were one of a kind you could make me laugh so hard and we cried together at different times. You were always there to lend a hand in baking or cooking up a meal, no cleaning though. You loved Charlie so much. He was your rock and he felt the same way. Your children and grandchildren nothing she wouldn’t do for them, she loved you so much. Oh how she loved Jesus she would tell me he was shaking his head at her. I can’t say enough good stuff about her. You are missed so much. Until we see each other again don’t give all the pound cake away. I love you dear friend. Praying for Charlie and the family for God to comfort them at this time.

Ginger is one of my dearest friends. She was a devout Christian and is enjoying her new body and home. I will miss her but hopefully see her again. She practiced her beliefs and counseled me through good times and bad. My prayers for Charlie and her children.

Ginger and her family’s friendship with the Mays family started many years ago as we were all raising our children. Michael and Kenny were and still are very close friends. This friendship has been precious all these years. I have to say that as I read the way you described Ginger it is all so, so true. Ginger is now with the Lord, but we are confident that when the time is right, we will all be together again, enjoying a friendship that will never end.

I just want to thank you for being a good friend to me over the years. I cannot tell you how much your friendship has meant to me. You are one of the main reasons why I stayed in Jacksonville when I got out of the navy, your warm and friendly ways to a young sailor boy away from home was something which touched my heart, I will never forget all the good times we had together over the years The memories with the fun crazy things we did when we were young is something I will never forget You were a blessing to me, and I thank God for bringing you into my life. I cannot thank you enough for all the love, and wonderful times we had over the years, and I am thankful that I am able to share these thoughts with you. I will miss you.
