Allen Spencer Adams

March 06, 1941~April 09, 2020

Allen Spencer Adams of Jacksonville, Florida, age 79. Allen went to Heaven on April 9, 2020. He was born March 6, 1941 in Longview Washington to James Bromwell and Mary Gertrude Lacroix. Allen spent most of his childhood in Rapid City, South Dakota, and later, Somerset, New Jersey. After proudly serving four years in the Navy on the USS Forrestal, he married and started his family in New Jersey. He worked at the Owens-Illinois plastic factory and then pursued his passion for upholstery. Because of his love for the outdoors and his fondness for his childhood years in Rapid City, he relocated his family to Rapid City, where he would become a business man and open his first upholstery business, ‘’Yardstick Upholstery.” He was an upholsterer for over 50 years and continued his work into his retirement. He was a perfectionist in his trade, and would often impress his customers by his incredibly detailed and precise work. Allen’s other passions in life were fishing, or as he would say “drowning some worms. He had a knack for finding fishing holes off the beaten path. As long as he didn’t get “skunked” he was happy. Another passion was baking. He loved baking cheesecakes and dozens of cookies at Christmas time to share with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching westerns, or as he called them “horse movies.” Allen loved his Hosanna Sunday School class at Westside Baptist Church, rarely missing a Sunday. Allen is survived by his loving wife Margo, daughter Michelle (Kevin) Porter, son, Allen K. Adams, stepson Timothy Imel, stepdaughter Teala (Austin) Waite, grandchildren Anthony and Eric Porter, step-grandchildren Hailey Waite and Mackenzie Waite, brothers Michael, Robert, David and Roger, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Allen was preceded in death by his daughter Kathleen Adams, mother Mary Gertrude Lacroix, father James Bromwell, step-father Robert Adams, brother James Adams, sisters, Annette Fozman and Mary Jo Vonah.
