Betty Ann Brown

March 22, 1933~August 03, 2021

Betty Ann Brown was born March 22, 1933, in Johnson County, Georgia to Albert Hall and Betty Grizzard. She and her siblings were born during the Great Depression and were separated from one another early in life. Betty spent most of her childhood in Wrightsville, Georgia. She lived in a foster home with the McAfee family and excelled in school and singing. Betty was always grateful for the care and home the McAfee’s gave her during that time and often remarked that those childhood days were the hardest being separated from our natural family. Later in life, she was reunited with her brothers and sisters and credited her sister, Judy Harp for bringing them all back together.

As a young woman, Betty moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she spent the rest of her life. She gave birth to three sons: Robert Gabriel, Richard Gabriel, Hardy Porter and a daughter, Robin Moran. Betty was a faithful wife, devoted mother, and a successful business owner. For almost thirty years she owned and operated ‘Betty’s’; a local favorite bar and grill on the Northside of Jacksonville.

After the death of her husband Ralph E. Brown and her retirement, Betty moved to St. Johns County to live with her daughter Robin and her family. She spent the last years of her life traveling with her aunt and dear friend Tina Sever. They loved to visit family, friends and historic sites. Betty loved to watch TV’s ID Channel with the family dog, Sweet Pea (the love of her life!) in her lap! She cherished her four granddaughters; grandson and had a special affection for her two great-grandbabies.

Betty Ann Brown bravely fought a two- year battle with lung cancer and passed away at home August 3, 2021. She was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Betty was preceded in death by her two sisters, Judy Harp and Bobbi Lynn Kelly and her brother Lynwood Hall. She is survived by two brothers, John and Terry Futch; sons Richard Gabriel (Stephanie) and Hardy M. Porter (Tammy); daughter Robin Moran (Gus); Grandchildren Tamara Porter, Amber Porter, Hayley Davidson (Andrew), Hanna Moran and Mike Pasqualicchio.; Great Grandchildren Gavin Porter and Brinley Habitch
