Donald Alvis Hendrix

January 01, 1961~June 17, 2021

Donald “Donny” Alvis Hendrix, age 60, passed away June 17, 2021. Born in Savannah, Georgia on January 1, 1961, a day he would say he never had to go to school or work and everybody celebrated.

His passion for life was seen every day. He loved to give to those he was close to, and also to the charities that helped those who could not help themselves. He often would drive on a whim to the Humane Society or no kill shelter in Clay County and drop off needed supplies.

This was seen with our own menagerie of loved spoiled cats. He always said God gave us the ones no one else wanted.

He was never a follower, and from an early age he charted his own path. At the age of 14 he got a military ID that showed he was born in 1960 so at age 14 instead of 15, he was running the streets from Jacksonville Beach to Dayton Beach on his motorcycle.

This was also seen in his love for music. Although he listened to the current music of the times growing up, he also could enjoy the songs of past artist. Elvis, you couldn’t beat as a favorite.

His passion for the Georgia Bulldogs was unrelenting.

He still watched old TV shows and classic movies. A time when this art was based on story lines and mystery, and not dependent on special effects. If you ever made a bet on music, TV shows or movies, you might as well hand your property over.

He was a teacher of life and wanted to instill values in others. If you needed food he would give it. If you needed money he would have you complete a task around the house to earn it.

By trade he was a drywall mechanic. He also said you can never have too much money. So on weekends, when he was able, he would pressure wash, paint houses and maintain lawns.

He was definitely not a car mechanic. He owned a multitude of cars, trucks and motorcycles through out his life and did not see them just as a mean of transportation.

One tradition he started early with his grandchildren was annual pumpkin carvings. This quickly grew to include his niece, nephew, and their children. He wanted this to carry on with their own families as they had children and it has.

Don was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Virginia Gill, his first wife, Shirley McSwain, and brother-in-law Jerry McSwain.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Hendrix, a daughter, Wendy Chaff (Andy), his grandchildren, ShiAnn Best (Jonathan), Hunter Chaff, and Cassidy Chaff, and a nephew, Raymond McSwain (Michelle).

Although he has gone home to the Lord, he will live on in our hearts and cherished memories.

Memorial services will be held, Friday, June 25, 2021 at 3:00pm in the chapel of Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32221 with Rev. Tim McDaniel officiating.
