Frank Gordon Brooks

May 22, 1925~February 08, 2021

Frank Gordon Brooks, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12th, 2021 after 92 wonderful years. Frank was born on May 22, 1928 in Edison, GA to the late Mr. James Robert and Lonie Mae Brooks, Sr. After graduating from Edison High School Frank proudly served in the US Navy and was stationed at Naval Air Station Jacksonville. Jacksonville ended up being the city where he would meet his future wife and love of his life, Isabel, and raise his two loving children, Gail and Bobby. After the Navy, he went on to work at the Naval Air Rework Facility (NARF, DOD, civil service) at Naval Air Station Jax and attended Jacksonville University. After 36 years at NARF he retired as a Branch Head in the Avionics Division. Frank was accepted into the Morocco Shriners organization on May 29, 1971. He and Isabel made many of their nearest and dearest friends through the Shriners and the Daughters of the Nile, where Isabel served as Queen for a term. During his years as a Shriner, he joined the Funsters Unit and created the character of ‘Happy the Clown” where he brought joy and happiness to children in the Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa as well as parade goers all over with his tricks, balloons, and heart-warming smile. After retiring “Happy’, he joined as a driver and coordinator for the Transportation Unit responsible for driving children in need from across Northeast Florida to and from their appointments at the hospital. Aside from the Shrine, Frank loved building furniture in his backyard woodworking shop, studying military history, organizing and attending annual family reunions in Georgia, cheering on his Jaguars, and served as a member of the Credit Committee for Vystar Credit Union for several years, with one year as Chairman. As he gained the title of Grandfather and Great Grandfather, he loved spending time with his family and always showed the same kindness and generosity (and occasional spoiling) to each new member of the family. He is preceded in death by his brothers, sisters, and loving daughter, Gail Adams. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mrs. Isabel Pitts Brooks, dedicated son, Bobby Brooks, adoring granddaughters Beth Friedlin and Jamey (Mark) Moran and admiring grandsons Cody (Liz) Adams and Cameron (Gabrielle) Adams as well as his five great-grandsons Tyler Friedlin, Cayden Moran, Logan Moran, Ryder Moran and Cameron Adams, Jr.
