Gene Reynolds passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his Jacksonville home on May 6, 2020. Gene was a retired decorated dual service veteran who served in United States Army and United States Navy.
Gene was born on October 9th, 1941 in Harper, Kansas to his parents Bertle and Elaine Reynolds. After graduating from High School in 1960, his dual military career began when he join the United States Army in 1960 and later join the United States Navy in 1973. He served during the Vietnam War and received many medals of Honor along with the distinguished Sharp Shooter medal. He traveled many seas on the USS John F. Kennedy and many other military commands.
Shortly after serving in the Army, he worked at Boeing Aircraft Company and fell in love with Lillie Anna Coen in Sedgwick, Kansas. The love birds married in 1974, shortly after the reunion in 1974, they jointly accepted Jesus Christ into their life, held unwavering faith in God, which they shared with those who surrounded them, and started their Christian journey serving the Lord.
In 1974, Gene and Lillie relocated to Jacksonville, Florida and they became faithful servants at the Ministry of Trinity Baptist Church. He served over 40 years until his health would no longer allow him to serve. Gene was notorious for his faithful service to the church and community that he received a Hospitality Award noting over 45 years of service.
After retiring from the United States Navy, Gene started working for the United States Postal Service and retired again after serving over 40 years of dedicated service.
Gene joins his parents Bertle and Elaine, and his wife, Lillie in Heaven. He is survived by his daughter Shannon, four grandchildren: Derek Reynolds Sr, Sean Kniskern, Jacob Arnold, Caleb Reynolds, three great grandchildren: Derek Reynolds Jr., Audrey Kniskern, Ansley Kniskern, and a host of relatives and friends.
