Irene McDowell Grimstead, 90, of Jacksonville, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 24, 2023.
Irene was born September 7, 1933 in High Point, North Carolina. She was a resident of Jacksonville, Florida with her husband Frederick Daniel Grimstead, Jr. where he retired from the Naval Air Station.
Irene is preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, Frederick (Fred) Daniel Grimstead, Jr.
Survivors include three children, Evelyn Ann Horne (Ann), Frederick Daniel Grimstead, III (Danny) and Sandra Grimstead Prevatt (Sandie/Sissy)(Emmett), four grandchildren, Kesha Browning Stawniczy (Andrew), Kimberly Horne Pless (Ryan), Travis Wayne Horne (Crystal) and Jessica Grimstead-Wright (Jason), ten great grandchildren, Kalei Cocco Davis (Chandler), Emalei Cocco, Kameryn Henshaw, Jagger Pless, Ryder Pless, Avery Pless, Ean Horne, Hunter Horne, Bella Horne, Raven Leggette, Jacob Wright and Ivy Wright and three great-great grandchildren, Alexander Davis, Jade Davis and Julio Cocco.
Irene is best remembered for her hospitality and generosity towards others. She was a proud owner of a 7-11 in Orange Park, Florida until she retired. She was the Secretary and Treasurer for Rainbow Riders Saddle Club for 20 years, where her and her family competed in barrel racing.
She never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew her.
Irene was a member of 103rd Street Baptist Church.
