Joseph Earl Brunson, Sr.

December 04, 1931~February 23, 2021

Joseph Earl Brunson, Sr. passed away on February 23, 2021. Known to many as Joe, he was born December 4, 1931 in Savannah, Ga to Benjamin Oscar Brunson and Lossie Nelle Davis. His brother Arthur passed away at age 5 and his half-sister Betty Lou Smithie passed away last month. Joe moved to Jacksonville at the age of 10 and lived in Riverview on the Northside of Jacksonville. He attended Jackson High School and then married his “sweet pea”, Betty on September 15, 1950. They loved roller skating and dancing. He was a member of the plumber and steamfitter’s local union 234 until 1974 at which time he started his own business as a home improvement contractor. Joe possessed a unique skill to visualize the finished product before it was ever started. He could build anything! A milestone in his career was building a round house on the river in Arlington, which stands to this day. On occasion, his son would drive him by and talk of those days. Joe coached his son’s little league baseball team at Forest View and enjoyed watching his daughter cheer. He loved watching football and attending the TCA games with their friends. Joe was a long time member of Trinity Baptist Church, serving as a 6th grade boys Sunday school teacher for 30 years, a bus captain, a deacon for 32 years and a participant in the churches tel-evangalism program. He led countless people to the Lord. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Louise Brunson, and his 2 children, Joe Jr. (Laurie) and Suzanne (Danny – deceased) , 6 grandchildren, Chase Brunson (Alana) ,Victoria Pope (Jordan) Kelsey Brunson (Ansley), Courtney Andrews, Gabrielle Andrews, and Daniel Andrews and 6 great grandchildren, Noah, Sophie, Harper, Audrey, Levi and Violet. He dearly loved his family and prayed for each of them by name. His desire in life was to lead people to Christ – during the last year of his life, he was still telling people about the love and goodness of Jesus. He was a godly, good man and no doubt heard the words: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of the Lord” A memorial service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church 800 Hammond Blvd. on Sunday February 28, 2021 at 1pm.
