Kenneth L. Dobbs

July 24, 1934~February 27, 2024

Kenneth Lamar Dobbs, 89, of Raiford, FL passed away Tuesday February 27, 2024. Kenneth was born July 24, 1934 to parents Lester and Nora. Kenneth’s father was a guard of Florida State Prison and their family resided in prison housing. He would attend school in Union County, graduating from Union County High School in 1952. The following year, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

Before enlisting, Kenneth was introduced by his cousin Louise to Ina Jean Thomas and would correspond with her while stationed in Alaska. Kenneth and Ina Jean were married in 1955 and would finish Kenneth’s military service stationed in Lake Charles, LA, before returning to Jacksonville to settle, start a family and begin what would be a long career with the U.S. Postal Service.

Kenneth’s greatest joy in life came from family, both biological and church families. He was a proud father, a doting “Papa” and a faithful member to Marietta Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Jacksonville for many years. He had recently moved his membership to Westside Baptist Church to be able to worship alongside his family when he was able.

Kenneth is survived by his children Lisa (Bob), and Steve (Heather); grandchildren Jessica, Lauren (Josh), Kirby and Andrew; great-grandchildren Jake, Lucas, Elliott and Henry, sister Norma Jean Johns; and brother Nolan Dobbs.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Ina Jean, granddaughters Krista and Kara, and great-granddaughter Edith.

In lieu of flower donations, the family would ask that donations be made to Westside Baptist Church’s “Edie Crews Light Up the Park” fund.

My condolences to his family. I saw him at cousin Louise Jones funeral. I remember he always worked hard with Louise and others planning the Dobbs reunions.

Our sympathies to the family. My husband and I first met Mr. Dobbs at the Benton House, while visiting my mom, Marion Shannon. He was a sweet Christian gentleman, and always had a friendly smile and hello when we saw him, and enjoyed “puzzle-talking” with him at the puzzle table outside his apt. Webb & Jean Nichols 🙏 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.

We knew your dad from FBC and he was very special in our lives. He would attend Father son luncheons with my son.

Steve and Lisa (and families), I am so sorry to hear about your Daddy. He was such a precious soul. He loved Jesus and had no problem telling people that he did. My parents also thought the world of him and Ms. Ina Jean. He loved his family and his church family. I know he is so joyful seeing his Saviour and all of his loved ones. May you be comforted knowing he is with Jesus. Sending our love, thoughts and prayers during this time.
