Latrelle A. Ross

January 07, 1930~April 27, 2025

Latrelle Adair Ross entered the presence of the Jesus she loved on April 27, 2025. Latrelle was born in Greenwood, MS to Hewlett and Pearl Eugene Adair on January 7, 1930. Because of her father’s occupation as an equipment operator, she spent her early years traveling throughout the southeast until her family settled in the Riverside area of Jacksonville. Latrelle attended Riverside Baptist Church and graduated from Lee High School in 1947. Before attending Lee High School, she attended John Gorrie Junior High where she met Ray Ross, her husband-to-be.

Ray and Latrelle were married in 1948, and Latrelle continued working at Barnett Bank while making a home. When the children arrived, she became a fulltime homemaker. She was very industrious making clothes for her family, which now included two children, and playing the organ and piano at Woodlawn Baptist Church. She also participated in her children’s extracurricular activities such as Patrol Boy fund raising and trips, and such. In 1968 the family moved their memberships to First Baptist Church Jacksonville, where Latrelle faithfully served the Lord as a ladies’ Sunday School teacher for 42 years. Following her time as a teacher she continued her Bible study by attending church, reading daily devotionals and participating in Bible Study Fellowship in FL and ID. This helped her be a godly witness in her daily life.

As the children got older Latrelle began to work outside the home at Winn Dixie, Florida Paper and American Heritage Insurance. When Latrelle retired from this outside work she continued to support and care for Ray, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some of these relations gave her opportunities to travel to far parts of the globe like Hong Kong and Idaho. There were also the pleasure trips to Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, Switzerland, etc.

Her service to her Savior, her jobs and other activities brought Latrelle into contact with many people that she genuinely cared for, and that cared for and loved her. She and Ray expressed this care and love by regularly visiting people who needed encouragement and by giving Latrelle’s handcrafted items to family and friends.

Latrelle is survived by her son David Ross, daughter Jan Hager (Freddie), six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two nieces. David’s sons are Tyler, Caleb (Caitlin) and Adam (Kayla). Caleb has a son, Bradley, and a daughter, Cadence. Adam has a son, Ray. Jan’s children are Rebekah Turner (Daniel), Nathan (Jill) and Luke (Kelli). Rebekah has four children, Emma Grace, Levi, Hannah and Judson. Nathan has two sons, Patrick and Henry. Luke has three children, Samantha, Andrew and Madeline.

Jan, David, and your families, Bill and I want to express our heartfelt condolences. It was an honor to know your mother, she was a beautiful lady. A fun memory was at a Chucker baseball game at the fence with her watching them play while standing there for a few minutes and telling me how baseball was so boring and football was much more exciting! She is in the presence of Jesus along with your dad.

The Ross family was and will always be known for their love. From Mr. Ross and Mrs. Ross love and Grace exhibited individually and then given through Jan and David. Latrelle as the mother is the cornerstone of the family heart. I have such fond memories of growing up at FBC and this family is part of the heart of those memories. Thank you Latrelle for leaving your handprint on each of us.
