Lillie Rollins Crawford

June 09, 1925~February 16, 2021

Lillie Rollins Crawford, our beautiful Mother, Grandmama, Grandmamamama, Sis and Aunt Eee, 95 years of age, peacefully slipped away from us in the early morning hours of February 16, 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida.
She was born June 9, 1925 in Helicon, Winston County, Alabama to the late Robert Lee Rollins and Fairbie Ellen Clark Rollins. She graduated from Walker County High School, Jasper, Alabama and attended the University of Alabama. She was employed as a reporter for The Daily Mountain Eagle in Jasper, Alabama before moving to Jacksonville in 1947 where she worked for Gulf Life Insurance Company and American General Life Insurance Company retiring in the early 80’s. She was a member of West Jacksonville Advent Christian Church for 52 years before joining Island View Baptist Church of Orange Park on February 3, 2002.
Mother loved her family above everything and was always happiest when she was surrounded by them. She loved reading, genealogy and traveling. She enjoyed roaming through cemeteries and traveling to courthouses and libraries searching through files, books and dusty courthouse records for ancestors as much as she enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Scandinavia. Most trips she could always wiggle in some time for family research. She was the proud author of several family history books.
Mother was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Crawford, sister Dorothy Richardson and brother Delmar Lee Rollins. She is survived by her daughter Jeanne (Carol) Stacy Carter and son Robert J. Crawford, Jr. of Jacksonville, grandsons Jason L. Carter (Trudy) of St. Petersburg, Robert J. Crawford, III of Jacksonville, great-granddaughter Catelyn Marie Crawford of St. Augustine, great-grandsons Ethan Mitchell Carter and Henry Leighton Carter of St. Petersburg, half-sister Dr. Linda Rollins and half-brother Robert Joseph Rollins (Lavelle) of Little Rock, Arkansas, special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mother’s wish was to be cremated and her ashes spread so “I forever will be in sunlight and a gentle autumn rain.” A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at Riverside Memorial Park in Jacksonville, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choosing.

Rest in peace Sweet Lillie. Thank you for all the phone calls and talks we shared, the secrets that the family kept. I will always cherish those precious moments. I wish I had gotten a chance to meet and talk with you in person. Save a seat for me, so I may join you, dad, and pawpaw Delmar one day. Thank you for bringing your daughter into my life as well. God knew the right time to bring us together….

I knew Mrs. Crawford thru her daughter, Jeanne. We would talk often about her love for Genealogy. I became interested in learning my family history. Jeanne loved her Mother so much, because her eyes would light up when we talked about Mother. Be encouraged she lived well.

We are sorry for your loss Jeanne and Robert. Your mom will be missed by many. But what a great life she had. I always enjoyed family gatherings with your mom. I remember times on the river with the Bishops and Easter egg hunts at McCoys Creek. She was funny and interesting. Our prayers are with you and your family.
