Marion Linwood Hamilton

Marion Linwood Hamilton passed away peacefully, September 28, 2022 at the age of 86 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Linwood was born in Cary, North Carolina on January 16, 1936. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thurman Z. Hamilton (1991) and Gertrude Hicks Hamilton (1990)

Linwood was the middle son of 3. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Thurman and Jerry Hamilton.

Linwood moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1951. He attended Lee High School, joining the US Navy in 1953 at the age of 17, serving 2 years. Linwood went on to work in the field of transportation logistics and supply chain, for over 34 years he was a commercial and independent truck driver.

Linwood was married to Susan Kirkpatrick Fisher from 1960-1971, having 2 son’s, Lin Patrick and Mark A. Hamilton. In the 60’s and 70’s Linwood joined his brother Jerry and cousin Ed as a weekend warrior, auto racing and working on race cars at the Jax Raceway on Lenox Avenue.

In 1974 Linwood joined the Masonic Shriners. He enjoyed being a Shriner, he cherished the charity fund raising that went to such a wonderful foundation in helping others that were in need. Linwood was active for 46 years, serving as branch president of the Wesconnett Shrine Club. He was part of the Go Kart Troop (Cyclops) that traveled and participated in parades all over the south for many years.

Linwood was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Betsy A. Hamilton (2008) whom he married in 1980. Linwood and Betsy enjoyed extensive travels on cruise ships for 29 years, taking 22 cruises. They enjoyed planning events and touring of distant countries each year with their Masonic Shrine Family.

Linwood is survived by his son Lin Patrick (Cathy) of Jacksonville, Florida and son Mark A. Hamilton of Orlando, Florida, two grandchildren who he adored, grandson Camron Dan Hamilton (Sara) of Sarasota, Florida and granddaughter, Miranda Hamilton Harvey (Jacob) of Woodstock, Georgia and two great grandchildren, Riley Kate and Weston Miles Hamilton whom he cherished and loved to hear what they were up to and how fast they were growing. Linwood is also survived by many nieces, nephews, his cousin and friend Ed Kelly as well as his close friends, the entire Townsend family.

Viewing and visitation will be Friday, October 21, 2022, 6:00 PM-8:00 PM.

Graveside service will be the next day, Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Immediately following, the family invites all friends and family to join them for a celebration of life reception and lunch at son, Lin’s home. 1559 Quail Roost Lane, Jacksonville, Florida 32220
