Norman Edgar Gates Jr. 79, of Jacksonville, FL. passed away peacefully on Monday January 29, 2024.
Norman was born in Downingtown Pennsylvania on July 27, 1944. He was the oldest of two sons to Rose and Norman Gates Sr. The family moved to Florida during their boys’ youth, where Norman graduated from Landon High School in Jacksonville.
Norman married the love of his life Paulette on March 6, 1965. They spent 57 loving years together before her passing in September 2022. Norman, also called Skip by his loved ones, worked in the grocery retail business for over 50 years before retiring from Kroger in 2011. Norman and Paulette lived out a lifelong dream of living in the Great Smoky Mountains before returning to Jacksonville. He was a collector of all thing trains, stamps and rocks. He enjoyed spending time making memories with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Norman is survived and will be greatly missed by his two sons, Christopher (Christine) Gates, Dustin (Angela) Gates; two grandchildren Jakob and Samantha Gates. Norman is proceeded in death by his wife Paulette Gates; parents, Rose and Norman Gates Sr, and his brother John Gates.
The family will hold a private memorial at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
