Jimmie R. Adkins

Jimmie Ray Adkins (74) was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on the morning of August 26th, 2023, he went peacefully in his sleep.
Left to cherish his memory, his wife Glenda Gail (Davis) Adkins. His siblings: Tommie (Jackie) Adkins and Marilyn (Jerry) Pendergrass. His children (3): Lisa Lamprecht, Heather (Pat) McAnnally, Jimmie Adkins II (Heather Herring). Grandchildren (7): Randell (Laura) Lamprecht, Emilee (Hunter) Binek, Shalyn Adkins (Wyatt Hunter), Matthew (Ali) Lamprecht, Luke (Alexis) McAnnally, Ethan Romanelli, Trenton Trotter, Sutton Adkins. Great grandchildren: Scarlett Lamprecht, Kate Binek. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents and son in law Brian Lamprecht.
He was the middle child of Earl Leslie Adkins and Evelyn Marie (Clark) Adkins born in Jacksonville, Fl on November 10th, 1948. He spoke about going down to Treaty Oak and playing tag with his buddies running along the tree branches as a child. He was passionate about Dodge and Chrysler vehicles and if you ever had a conversation with him there’s no doubt, he told you about his 1973 Dodge Challenger. On September 30th, 1968, he joined the United States Air Force where for the next 4 years he served at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, NM as an Avionics System Specialist. When he left the Air Force he moved back to Jacksonville, FL where he began his career with Seaboard Coastline/CSX where he worked for almost 35 years before retirement where his nickname was Deadbolt. While working at CSX he also took training by mail and taught himself locksmithing and started his own company Adkins Lock and Key where he used the verse John 3:16 as that is the KEY verse to eternal life. He was a faithful member at Old Plank Road Baptist Church for nearly 40 years where he ran the sound system for many years as well as serving as the Awana Director and made many lifelong friendships along the way. He spent over 35 years organizing and promoting the annual Adkins family reunion. Family was the most important thing to him; he created a family tree that dated back to 1785 when the Adkins family came over from Ireland.
Services will be held at Old Plank Road Baptist Church on September 6th, 2023. Viewing will be from 9:30PM-10:30AM, Service 10:30AM. After the service lunch will be provided. At approx. 12:45PM we will move to Jacksonville National Cemetery for graveside service and military honors at 2:00PM sharp.
