In the late-night hours of January 4, 2026, John Deyo Cole, 81, of Middleburg, Florida slipped away from us to begin his next adventure.
He was the son of Willous Emmett Cole and Marion Vernette Bard, born October 10, 1944, in Norwich, New York. At the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served 20 years before retiring in Jacksonville, Florida to raise his family. In 2009, he and his wife moved to Middleburg, Florida and he later retired from Swisher in Jacksonville, Florida.
John was preceded in death by both his parents, siblings: Audrey Blanche Cole, Eugene (Genie) Nye Downey, Beverly Lauraine Slentz (nee Cole), Gloria “Sug” Ann McNitt (nee Cole), Thomas “Sonny” Edward Downey, Jr., Robert “Bobby” John Downey, Autumn “Autie” Barbara Law (nee Cole), and niece, Jill Law.
He leaves behind his faithful and loving wife, Marcia Carol Cole (nee McGlon), daughter, Melanie Cole Brannen (Jason), sons, John David Cole (Jamie), Eric Kenneth Cole, grandsons, Tyler Hirsch (Deni), Alan Hirsch (Alexis) Brigham Kenneth Cole, great grandchildren, Nero Hirsch and Ellie Hirsch, siblings, Cheryl Dery and William “Billy” Cole and many nieces and nephews.
Services will take place on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Fraser Funeral Home at 11:30 AM, with a visitation at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
