January 12, 2026
In the care of
Fraser Funeral Home
Raymond J. Barton, Jr, 87, of Middleburg, FL passed away January 12, 2026. He was
surrounded by his loving family and close friends. He was born on December 21, 1938, in
Worcester, MA to Raymond and Aurora. As the oldest of six children, he learned great
responsibility at an early age, helping his mother and siblings navigate the challenges of
life.
At 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and embarked on a proud 22-year career as an aircraft
mechanic and flight engineer on the following platforms: blimps, P2V Neptune, C-118
Liftmaster (his favorite), C-121 Super Constellation, and S-2 Tracker. His career began in
South Weymouth, MA, and had stops in Los Alamitos, CA; Barbers Point, HI; Brunswick,
GA; Albuquerque, NM; and finally in Seoul, South Korea. His tour in Barbers Point, HI
included flying all over the western pacific, including multiple missions into and out of
South Vietnam. After retirement, he and his family settled in Middleburg, FL. From 1978-
1999, he worked for Florida Steel Corporation as a maintenance mechanic. After
retirement, he enjoyed traveling, sitting at home reading, and helping family members and
friends with do-it-yourself projects. He was always a call away with a calming voice when
his family needed it.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia, and children Raymond III (Debbie),
Robert (Donna), Jeffrey, Daniel (Sheila), and Michelle (Thomas); brothers Richard and
James; and sisters Rosemary and Theresa. He is the grandfather to Christine, Jennifer,
Zachary, Danielle, and Catherine, and great grandfather to Avery, Jaxson, Mason, and
Mackenzie. He is predeceased by a brother, Donald. Raymond was a wonderful and loving
father, husband, mentor, and friend. He touched the lives of so many people with his love
of family, warmth, compassion, humility, and a great sense of humor. He will be missed by
all who knew and loved him.
A private memorial service will be held at Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd,
Jacksonville, FL, followed by cremation.
