Raymond J. Barton, Jr.
In the care of
Fraser Funeral Home
Raymond J. Barton, Jr, 87, of Middleburg, FL passed away January 12, 2026. He was
surrounded by his loving family and close friends. He was born on December 21, 1938, in
Worcester, MA to Raymond and Aurora. As the oldest of six children, he learned great
responsibility at an early age, helping his mother and siblings navigate the challenges of
life.
At 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and embarked on a proud 22-year career as an aircraft
mechanic and flight engineer on the following platforms: blimps, P2V Neptune, C-118
Liftmaster (his favorite), C-121 Super Constellation, and S-2 Tracker. His career began in
South Weymouth, MA, and had stops in Los Alamitos, CA; Barbers Point, HI; Brunswick,
GA; Albuquerque, NM; and finally in Seoul, South Korea. His tour in Barbers Point, HI
included flying all over the western pacific, including multiple missions into and out of
South Vietnam. After retirement, he and his family settled in Middleburg, FL. From 1978-
1999, he worked for Florida Steel Corporation as a maintenance mechanic. After
retirement, he enjoyed traveling, sitting at home reading, and helping family members and
friends with do-it-yourself projects. He was always a call away with a calming voice when
his family needed it.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia, and children Raymond III (Debbie),
Robert (Donna), Jeffrey, Daniel (Sheila), and Michelle (Thomas); brothers Richard and
James; and sisters Rosemary and Theresa. He is the grandfather to Christine, Jennifer,
Zachary, Danielle, and Catherine, and great grandfather to Avery, Jaxson, Mason, and
Mackenzie. He is predeceased by a brother, Donald. Raymond was a wonderful and loving
father, husband, mentor, and friend. He touched the lives of so many people with his love
of family, warmth, compassion, humility, and a great sense of humor. He will be missed by
all who knew and loved him.
A private memorial service will be held at Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd,
Jacksonville, FL, followed by cremation.

Uncle Ray, you were a wonderful man, a great father, Uncle, brother. Your brother Donald Sr loved talking to you. We loved having you visit and sharing stories with us. I'm glad you and Aunt Pat visited me here in Washington a while back. You joked that you never seen that damn mountain (Mt. Rainier) when you were here. Lol! I know my dad, Donald greeted you. You will be missed dearly. The world is not the same with you and my dad gone. We love you. Love Donnie Jr. and Joyce Reedy.

As a young airman in VR-21 Barbers Point, I had several trips in and out of South Vietnam with Ray being the lead flight engineer. Was lucky enough to renew our friendship with him as well as with Pat at the many VR-21 reunions over the years. Always a happy couple. Ray will be missed by all that knew him. Fair winds and following seas my friend.

Uncle Ray - I’ll miss you! You were an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, mentor and uncle! You were a Man’s Man who always put family and friends first - it was always great to see you and Aunt Pat when you took the many trips back to Massachusetts. Our family is smaller by one but we will never forget you, your kindness, your advice and your sense of humor will always be with me! I’ll see on the other side! Love You and watch over Aunt Pat and the rest of your family!

Poppy, not one day will go by that you are not remembered or missed. I hope you have infinite amounts of cups of black coffee and a grand library of all your favorite books with your own personal recliner, in heaven. The stars are lucky to have you shine next to them. I love you forever.
